My forgotten blog.

June 2nd, 2009

So it seems I have forgotten about my blog. It’s been a crazy last couple of months with the college semester ending, vacation, moving into a new apartment at the same time as moving out to Maryland for an internship. It seems like the last two months have been non stop, and I’m finally getting a chance to settle down. Which is good, but I feel like I’m missing my chance to enjoy Maryland. So I will work harder to get out more and enjoy this new state and part of the country.

Fixing PS3

April 5th, 2009

So I have decided not to pay Sony the $150 to have them fix my PS3. Instead I’m going to purchase the parts and fix it myself. Now I just need to find the parts to do so. Looking on eBay for parts and have found some broken PS3’s with other issues but there prices are really high for something that is broken. Might need to look into just buying the part from a web site instead. Lets hope I find something soon, so I can go back to playing games and watching Blu-Rays.

Damn you Sony!

Thanks for nothing Sony

April 1st, 2009

I would like to thank Sony for having a wide spread problem with the PS3 and not acknowledging the blame for the problem. There apparently is a very common problem with the PS3’s Blu-Ray laser diode and that it will just die all of sudden. With a quick search I found multiple traces of the problem from many users across the internet. Even on Sony’s own Playstation boards.

But the only fix for the problem? Sending it into Sony and paying $150 for them to send you a refurbished one back. Thanks Sony! At least Microsoft faced up to there problem and fixed their consoles. But no, you decided against doing the right thing and are making your customers pay to fix your problem. Well good luck in the future. Because I don’t for see myself buying another Sony product again, and will make sure no one I know buys one either. Thanks again.

Internships

March 25th, 2009

So I have a really hard decision to make about the summer internship I select. I’m currently working at a research institute in computer tech support which I enjoy. Or I have the opportuntity to go out of state and take an internship with a position working on networking and security at a unnamed place. I’m torn between which I should take. One close to home, family, friends and my girlfriend. Or the one that is out of state and is a huge opportuntity for my career. But I haven’t decided about leaving the state after graduation, it’s just a great resume builder that will add numerous skills to my education and will open a lot of nice positions after graduation. My main problem is how do I tell my current employer that I’m leaving to take another intern position somewhere else? Plus this current position would allow me to work during my last semester of college. If I leave them I lose my position and will have to find another job for my last semester. I just don’t know what to do, any advice?

I just thought I would list the following updates I’m going to install to my Mac:

iWork 09, iLife 09, and OSX 10.5.6!

For the iPhone, I need to update to 2.2.1 and then re-jailbreak my phone.

So please remember to update your applications!

AT&T data services in Grand Rapids, MI

December 28th, 2008

So it appears that the data services for AT&T Wireless are apparently down right now in the greater Grand Rapids, MI area. Since both my iPhone and my girlfriends don’t have data and a quick restart didn’t fix the problem. I probably should call AT&T and see what’s going on. Update coming later possibly.

Update: the AT&T data services seem to be restored. Thank you!

Referees in the NHL

December 21st, 2008

I really enjoy watching hockey, especially the Detroit Red Wings. I’m from Michigan so its pretty much a given to be a Red Wings fan obviously. But there is one extremely painful part of hockey now that really upsets me, the officiating. Tonight’s Red Wings game was no different than the next, a game full of terrible penalty’s and missed calls. I’m not talking about just calls that favor the Red Wings either, I’m talking about penalty’s that need to be called for the sake of the sport of hockey. Now I understand the referee’s can’t see everything that happens during an hour long game, but come on now. There are nights where it just looks completely obvious that they are doing a terrible job out there.

Well before this rant turns into anything else. I’m ending it and going to bed.

p.s. NHL - what ever happened to goaltender interference from last year, did you just forget about now?

Unemployment

December 18th, 2008

So I have been unemployed for two weeks now. Actually if I don’t find a job soon, this will become the longest time I have been unemployed since the summer after my freshman year of college which I went four weeks without a job. Then the next summer after sophomore year I went two and a half weeks in transition from the end of the semester to an internship at the company that I got the lay off from.

I thought not working during this holiday break would be great for me. A chance to calm down and do nothing day after day. But I was completely wrong, it sucks. I’m so bored and every time I think of something to do I finish the task immediately. Also the stress of not having a job and steady income is starting to creep in. I’m starting to wonder how I’m going to pay for my expenses at college.

Finding a job is just as bad as not having a job. I have looked at many different job posting websites including ones from my college and nothing. There was one job at a local Apple Store I was excited for, but I haven’t heard anything from them yet. Hopefully this poor economy will turn around and I can have my old job back.

iPhone home Activation

December 11th, 2008

The iPhone 3G now can be purchased from the AT&T website and activated at home just like the original iPhone. People looking to unlock the phone and use with a different carrier now might have the ability to purchase the phone and possibly not commit to a two-year contract with AT&T.

Finals Week

December 11th, 2008

Tomorrow I have two finals to finish off the week and the semester. Each final tomorrow is for a business class and is cumulative. Which means tonight and tomorrow morning are going to long and full of studying. What really is the point of a cumulative exam? It makes no sense to me other than to torture students. I was already tested on this material why test me again. Cumulative exams are just a pain for all students. Excuse me for my rant, I just really don’t want to be studying right now. But I have too.
